Post-match reactions from the 4th game of our 2024/2025 Singapore Cup campaign. Having already qualified for the knockout stages, we fielded a rotated side against BG Pathum, who also made some changes to their lineup because of fixture congestion. Supporters were prepared for a low-key night with nothing much at stake, but were enraged when the referee controversially sent off Song after some questionable advice from the VAR team. The poor refereeing performance was a direct cause of the toxic atmosphere at the stadium. Our Sailors recovered after to boss the game despite being 1 man down from the 5th minute. Rasaq got himself a stupendous goal after some great defensive work. BG Pathum eventually equalised in added time from a corner kick, but our work was done, and we had qualified top of the group. Post-match reactions from Leg 2 of the Quarterfinals of our ACL2 2024/2025 campaign. We looked dead and buried last week but an administrative lapse by our opponents had disastrous consequences for them, meaning their 6-1 win became a 3-0 lead for us in the 2nd leg. There was still every chance that Sanfrecce Hiroshima could overturn the 3-goal deficit handed to them by AFC, but those fears lessened when Lennart Thy struck early to hand us a 4-0 lead on aggregate. A free-kick equaliser was all our opponents could come up with in the end, and the game ended 1-1, securing our passage into the semis. Post-Match Reactions - Sanfrecce Hiroshima 6 Lion City Sailors 1 (ACL2 2024/2025)
Post-match reactions from the 23rd game of our 2024/2025 Singapore Premier League season. A rematch at Bishan Stadium for our Sailors, who were humiliated 5-0 in this fixture last year. Determined not to see a repeat of that, our Sailors started slowly and kept it solid, but were perhaps fortunate not to enter half-time 1-0 down as BG Tampines created two very good chances. In the second half, Lionel Tan scored the only goal of the game with time running out, to extend our lead at the top of the table to 9 points. We spoke with Crew members Ernest and Aiman. There were some nerves given that a commanding 3-0 lead had become 3-2 in the first leg of the game, but our Sailors put our minds at ease when Shawal Anuar won a penalty in the first minute. Maxime put it away, and further goals from Bart and Shawal (2) made sure of the victory, and also made it the Sailors' biggest continental result since their inception. It was 4-1 against Tanjong Pagar again, despite a rotated side being put out against them with Thursday's ACL2 2nd-leg clash against Muangthong in mind. It was controlled from start to finish, and goals from Bart (2), Rasaq and debutant Akram meant that a consolation penalty from former player Faizal Roslan didn't matter.
